About HRISP
Who We Are
The Hornbill Research Initiative for Science and People is an emerging Cameroon-based conservation research initiative connecting ecological science, local knowledge and inclusive participation to strengthen the conservation of hornbills and tropical forest ecosystems.
Our Mission
To generate and apply ecological and social knowledge that strengthens community-informed conservation of threatened hornbills and their habitats.
Our Vision
Thriving hornbill populations in resilient forest landscapes where conservation knowledge, decisions and benefits are shared fairly.
Why Hornbills?
Hornbills are important components of tropical forest ecosystems, particularly because of their role in seed dispersal. Yet many species face interacting pressures from hunting, wildlife trade, habitat degradation and expanding access to previously remote forests.
